The main focus of the project is to contribute to the improvement of food security and livelihoods of rural poor in Africa by enhancing access to and use of effective farm risk management tools by smallholders farmers.

Three countries were selected for implementation of project based on agro-climatic conditions and state of development of farm risk management tools:

• Burkina Faso in West Africa
• Tanzania in East Africa
• Zambia in Southern Africa

Smallholder farmers dominate agriculture in most African countries, including the three target countries, and they mostly concentrate on crop production, especially food crops
